Draught Beer Takes a Big Leap Forward in Thailand

]]>

Draught beer and draught cider in Thailand have taken a big step forward in 2009 with the emergence earlier in the year of some top-quality beers from both the United Kingdom, France and also Australia. Bangkok-based importer Fluid Asia Pacific now has seven high-end beer brands that it is importing from these countries along with two English ciders. Most of these top brands are available in both draught kegs and bottles and the company has more imported draught brands than any other importer in Thailand.

The brands that are now available are Tetley’s Smoothflow, Victoria Pride Bitter, Stowford Press Cider and Weston’s Cider from the U.K., Kronenbourg 1664 beer from France and Foster’s, Victoria Bitter, Crown Lager and Pure Blonde beers from Australia. And, these brands are available in the major tourist and expatriate communities throughout the country with widespread distribution in greater Bangkok, Pattaya and the eastern seaboard area, Phuket, Samui, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. There are now several hundred outlets in the country that carry one or more of these brands either in bottles or on draught.

By the end of the year Fluid Asia Pacific will be bringing in even more brands also, with Grolsch beer from the Netherlands and Peroni beer from Italy joining the company’s lineup. This is more good news for premium beer lovers and it may be hard to appreciate why this is so without a bit of explanation about the beer situation here in Thailand.

First, in the early 1930s the government granted a monopoly to one company, Boonrawd Brewery, to brew beer in the country which they did under the brand name of Singha. This monopoly lasted until the mid-70s when several other companies were allowed to establish breweries and foreign beers were gradually allowed to be imported. However, the market is still dominated by Singha, Chang – another Thai brand – and a locally brewed version of Heineken. If one of these beers isn’t one of your favorites then you’re out of luck in many places throughout the country, particularly if you’re somewhat off the beaten path.

Second, many of the companies that import beer into Thailand are small and underfinanced and frequently have supply problems resulting in pubs and restaurants not having stock for periods of time. Also, these companies tend to almost exclusively import bottled beers and not draught. Importing draught beer requires a much bigger expenditure of capital since the shipping of kegs is more expensive and there are high costs associated with providing the draught equipment needed to serve the beer. A more well-funded company like Fluid Asia Pacific has the capital to handle these extra requirements.

Anyway, these are some of the reasons why it’s newsworthy to beer drinkers in Thailand when new brands, especially ones from some expats’ home countries, make it to the Land of Smiles. As time goes by, the beer selection in the kingdom slowly gets better and with the addition of top-quality brands like the ones that Fluid Asia Pacific brings in the lot of beer drinkers here has taken a major step forward in a short period of time.

2020 Vision for the Web

Edit Article |

]]>

The growth of the web since 2000 has been massive and in the ‘new’ economies – China, Brazil, Russia, India, Eastern Europe that is likely to continue apace. It’s not until penetration reaches that of the phone that the market will mature. That’s lots of growth.

Given this likely growth what will the web look like in 2020?

Well, there are two sides to that coin – the way the technology works and then the ways we use it and, of course, forecast vision is less likely to be accurate than optical.

Technology

According to technology expert and entrepreneur Nova Spivack, the development of the web moves in 10 year cycles.

In the first decade, most of the development focused on the back end. In the second decade, focus shifted to the front end and the era social media, mash-ups and experiments to make the web more interactive. The next cycle will shift focus to the back end again. Then by 2020 focus will return to the front end and we’ll see thousands of new ways to use the web.

Some of the predictions for the next 10 years are the:

- ‘ever present’ web will merge with all other forms of entertainment and everything will be delivered via the web. Everything (phones, fridges, the lot) will connect to the net and you will have a constant connection to the web at work, at home, driving, in the pub or restaurant, in fact wherever you are.

- semantic web and artificial intelligence where all information is categorized and stored in such a way that a computer can understand it as well as a human. The web will capable of analyzing data and extrapolating new ideas for you. In fact people already feel that, as one of our readers, Tony Cox, wrote after one of our recent articles: “The Internet is evolving like a primitive brain building neural connections to integrate the myriad of input signals for evaluation, selective storage and sending of response signals. The conscious mind is only aware of that which demands attention, with most work dealt with automatically and subconsciously.”

- three dimensional web – one single virtual world with buildings, shops and other areas to explore and people to interact with in virtual reality and real online personalities. However, standards for programming and graphical design would be much more complex and expensive.

- above or some combination thereof.

Web usage

So what will the backroom developments mean for what we do on the web? Well, Seth Godin has characterised these next developments as:

- ubiquity – because it is about activity, not just data, and most human activity takes place offline

- identity – because the deliverable is based on who you are and what you do and what you need

- connection – because ‘you’re nothing without the rest of us’.

We are already seeing some of these changes with the growth of social media and the launch just recently of Google Sidewiki – a new feature of the Google Toolbar that lets you leave comments about any website. When some else running Sidewiki views that web page, they’ll see your comments.

But in the future Godin sees much more potent applications. He gives examples of how this will work too, such as:

- I’m typing an email to someone, and we’re brainstorming about doing a business development deal with Apple. A little window pops up and lets me know that David over in our Tucscon office is already having a similar conversation with Apple and perhaps we should coordinate.

- I’m late for a dinner. My GPS phone knows this (because it has my calendar, my location, and the traffic status). So, it tells me, and then it alerts the people who are waiting for me.

Some of this is not so far away. Google Wave has just launched and has a lot of features, such as:

- Real-time: In most instances, you can see what someone else is typing, character-by-character.

- Extensions: Just like Facebook developers can build their own applications within waves. Google Wave code will be open source, to promote innovation and adoption amongst developers

- Wiki functionality: Anything written within a Google Wave can be edited by anyone else

- Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.

- Drag-and-drop sharing: Drag your file and drop it into a Google Wave and everyone will have access.

The Social Issues Research Centre says that the web in 2020 will:

”……….meet human needs more fully than it does at present, with many resulting social and political implications. It will have come to provide a renewed forum for social cohesion and democracy as well as continuing as a platform for information, entertainment, communication, shopping, etc. ……… If a Web application, however complex and sophisticated, does not fulfil a timeless human need then it will not succeed. While technology changes, people in general do not………. We reinvent tribal groups in which we find a true sense of belonging, whether they be the familiar youth subcultures………. or the more staid and respectable………. ‘grown-up’ groups with which we are so familiar………. As basic mechanisms for bonding and social cohesion are eroded in the faceless anonymity of modern towns and cities, we re-create new means for satisfying our timeless needs. In this sense, nothing changes much apart from superficial style. The Web increasingly serves such needs, allowing us to establish and maintain the same social bonds……….”

Hence Marshall McLuhan’s Global Village becomes truly real and as Jeremiah Owyang, says: “people connect to each other – rather than institutions………. Consumers will rely on their peers as they make online decisions, whether or not brands choose to participate……… The community will take charge and that’s going to happen whether or not marketers or brands participate………. Social networking will only continue to facilitate the power shift toward the consumer.”

The crucial thing about all of this is that it completely changes the dynamic. For many years now the dynamic has been biased towards companies. As examples, branding and price promises have been two of the ways that companies have been able to maintain profitability whilst ‘reassuring’ consumers, i.e.

The purpose of any brand is to undermine the homogeneity of products so that pretty much indistinguishable items – whether cola or lager or denim or something else – have a substantially different value because they are marked with the label ‘Coca’ or ‘Pepsi’ or ‘Virgin’ or ‘Carling’ or ‘Heineken’ or ‘Budweiser’ or ‘Gap’ or ‘Levi’ or ‘Top Shop’. The advertising industry is dedicated to establishing consumer preference for one brand or another. This provides companies with increased profitability.

With the ‘range’ of goods currently available how could we possibly know about all of them or what they are worth? Our knowledge of the market and its goods is far from perfect, hence advertising campaigns offering that ‘If you find it cheaper elsewhere, we’ll refund twice the difference’.

Clearly, if you had perfect information you would know it was cheaper somewhere else to start with and, if you wished to ‘maximise your utility’ buy it there. This also provides companies with increased profitability.

In the social web market where much more perfect knowledge may exist (like small towns in 1750) then will brands that are really ‘just commodity products’ be able to exploit these situations?

Maybe, but it will take a significant change in attitude from top down to bottom up thinking, thinking which REALLY puts the consumer first ( ‘ask not what your community can do for you – ask what you can do for your community’ ) and not the CEO’s pay package.

St Maarten Yacht Charter

Edit Article |

St Martin is an island divided between two principalities: French in the north and Dutch in the south. Philipsburg is the capital of Dutch Sint Maarten and offers duty free shopping, casinos and nightlife and has some great bars around the waterfront. Marigot is the largest town in the French sector.

St Martin offers a wide choice of yacht charter and includes bareboat yacht charter, skippered yacht charter, luxury crewed yacht charter, monohull and catamaran charter and both sail and motor yacht charter.

Christopher Columbus discovered and claimed the island for Spain on 11th Nov 1493.The French settled on the island in 1624 to cultivate tobacco followed by the Dutch in 1631 who where looking for salt. In 1684 the island was divided into two zones, French Saint-Martin in the north and Dutch Sint Maarten in the south. The next 130 years saw the entire island occupied by the French, Dutch or British until 1816 when the French and Dutch zones resumed.

The weather is tropical, meaning it’s hot and sunny year-round with very little temperature variation between seasons. The average yearly air temperature is 27° C and sea surface temperature 26.4° C. The total average yearly rainfall is 995 mm, with 22 days of thunder. St Martin weather turns wetter in the autumn but showers are generally short and taper off quickly after big downpour. St Martin catches the unobstructed trade winds off the Atlantic Ocean. You can experience winds upwards of 20 knots for several days, making for some challenging passages. Summer months see winds anywhere from 10 to 20 knots.

Summer is the least expensive time to charter. Many yacht charter companies will offer promotions such as sail 10 days for the price of 7, or give discounts of up to 25% off charter prices. The winter is the height of the season and you will pay the full yacht charter price.

Juliana International Airport in the main airport on St Martin and has daily flights to the main cities of the world. French and English are spoken widely on St Martin. US Dollars and Euros are used everywhere. Major credit cards are generally accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops.

The island has a well developed network of mini-buses on both sides and this is an inexpensive way to get around. There are marked stops along the roadside, but by waving them down you can be picked up and dropped off virtually anywhere.

Every March, hundreds of participants from Europe, the United States, and the Caribbean visit St Martin to compete in one of the world’s biggest sailing events; the Heineken Regatta. During the past 25 years this regatta has become one of the largest events in the Caribbean.

Oyster Pond Marina is on the border between the French and Dutch sides, it is a full service marina with a fuel dock, laundry, bars and restaurants offering international cuisine and local seafood. There is a well-stocked supermarket for provisioning the yacht. Dawn Beach is on the Dutch side, and a bit off the beaten path. It boasts fine sugar white powdery sand, with a view of St. Bartxs in the distance. Compared to other well-developed popular beaches, Dawn beach has preserved its tranquillity and laid back atmosphere. The best snorkelling is found at Dawn Beach, as the coral reef is right off the shore. The surf can sometimes be a little challenging, so for young kids this is not the ideal beach.

Anse Marcel is a small harbour with a pleasant beach next to the Marina Port de Lonvilliers. Many yacht charters start from this marina. The marina is lined with shops, hotels, and many restaurants.

Marigot Port La Royale is a bustling marina boasting located on the leeward side of St Martin. It has one of the largest shopping arcades on St Martin and a host of little restaurants and bars. On Wednesday and Saturday your morningxs stroll will take you through the open-air market located along the wharf. There you will discover a colourful array of home grown produce, fresh fish and tropical fruits and spices. Fort St. Louis, built in 1767, is the largest historical monument in St Martin. The steep climb is worth the effort for the panoramic view of the island and the sea surrounding it.

Marigot Fort Louis has a 150 berth marina, Marina Fort Louis. It has direct access to the sea, as opposed to marinas on the Dutch side where yachts need to negotiate the Simpson Bay Bridge.

Simpson Bay has a full service marina on the Dutch side of the island with 120 slips accommodating yachts up to 61m. When departing, remember to check the time of the drawbridge opening. It only goes up twice a day. This lagoon is not a desirable place to swim.

Orient Beach is the best spot to see and be seen in St Martin. Both tourists and the islands French residents convene at Orient Beach to take advantage of its liberal bathing attitudes and great water sports facilities. Orient Beach has a string of restaurants that fill the air with tangy aromas and strolling down the beach where clothing is optional is considered by many part of the islandxs charm.

Diving: The waters surrounding the St Martin are filled with a wonderful diversity of marine life including coral. There is also a variety of old shipwrecks for diving enthusiasts to discover. There are plenty of diving centres to choose from in St Martin.

St Martin may also be the point of departure for visiting smaller nearby islands. These include Anguilla, St Bartxs and St Kitts and Nevis.

One way yacht charter is also available to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, Guadeloupe and Martinique in the French West Indies and Union in the Grenadines. Check with the yacht charter company for more details.

The Gulets are crewed and hands on sailing will be limited. For those wanting a little more independence there plenty of yacht charter companies in the area offering the more normal bareboat deals.

Backpackers in Thailand; Beer Lao Here Next Year

The Association of South East Asia Nations (ASEAN) has informed Thailand that it must allow imports of beers brewed in its member countries. The Thai Government has had no choice but to accept.

As a result we expect Laos’s favourite beer, Beer Lao, to have a significant impact on the Thai beer market. The Lao Brewery has previously made several applications to the Thai Government requesting that it allow imports of its product. These have all been rejected, mainly due to powerful lobbying by the 2 major players in the Thai beer market; Thai Bev Corp. and Singha Corp., who between them control around 80% of beer sales in Thailand.

Singha market the top selling brand, Beer Leo (alc. by vol. 5.3). They also have a premium beer, Beer Singha (5.0)

Thai Bev brew Beer Chang (6.4) and a Light version (5.0). Within the last 3 years they have also introduced Beer Archa into the market to try to combat the increasingly popular Leo, but with no significant effect, although it is a nice drink.

Beer in Thailand is still relatively inexpensive. Beer Archa is the cheapest at 32 Baht for a 640 cl bottle, followed by Chang at 40 Baht, Leo at 45 Baht and Singha at 55 Baht.

Heineken brew their premium brand here in Thailand and is popular with those Thais who wish to flaunt their wealth, although I say so with tongue in cheek! But at 75 Baht it’s certainly beyond the pocket of most Thais.

With the Thai beer market opening up next year the two existing combatants will be hard pressed to maintain market share. Certainly the Lao Brewery produces an excellent light lager, which will enter the market at nearer 30 Baht than 40 Baht. It sells in Laos for about 6000 Kip, which translates to 24 Baht. The Singha Corp’s main hope must be the Leo drinkers remain faithful. Thai beer drinkers really would not be successful in a taste test as they fill the glass with ice, over which they pour chilled beer which is so cold when drunk that it numbs lips, mouth, tongue and gums; it’s just too cold to have any flavour.

Meanwhile we beer connoisseurs await the arrival in Thailand of the delightful Beer Lao.

Good backpacking.

If there were a ‘Mellowest Capital in the World’ competition, Vientiane would win hands down.

Christmas in Bangkok- a tropical touch to a chilly festive season

Thailand is known foremost for its sun kissed beaches, friendly people and its popular local cuisine. Its rich history and rapid modern development provide a host of attractions and venues for visitors to this tropical paradise to enjoy.

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand; it is considered one of the fastest growing and most dynamic cities in Asia. It has a deep history that has merged with modern development to provide a wide array of unique and fun filled attractions to suit everybody’s taste, from traditional attractions such as the Grand Palace to modern developments such as trendy nightclubs and the futuristic Mah Boon Krong Shopping Centre.

As a result Bangkok is one of the most popular locations visited by tourists from around the world. A special time to visit Bangkok is during the Christmas season. Thai people have always enjoyed their festivals and celebrations, Christmas being one of their favourite times of the year.

A stunning feature of the city during this jolly season is the dazzling array of light decorations set up by locals and establishments. This transforms the city at night into a kaleidoscope of colour that helps illuminate the unique tropical touch that Bangkok lends to this internationally popular holiday period.

Walking along the streets of Bangkok, visitors can see intricately designed decorations on shop windows that blend traditional Christmas themes with unique Thai traditions. These designs are also expressed in the popular artistry of Batik which is indigenous to Thailand.

Visitors can then head over to Central World square in front of Central World Mall and gaze at the giant Christmas tree that dominates the square during the festive season. For a more cutting edge theme head over to the contemporarily styled Siam Paragon where the swaying palm trees at the entrance dance under the illumination of purple light and the adjoining streets are adorned with Christmas decorations and pulsating themes.

For those who wish to kick back and enjoy a good drink with some food in the mix, then you are well catered for during the season. Central World Square is home to both the Heineken and Singha Beer Gardens where groups can go, relax and sip a cool beer in the warm night air. For those feeling hunger pangs, head over to the riverside for the plethora of floating restaurants that offer fresh traditional food with a panoramic back drop.

Travellers hoping to go to Bangkok for the Christmas season must ensure to book early if they wish to find suitable accommodation when visiting Thailand. There are many reputed hotels to choose from in and around the city. A prominent Bangkok hotel to note is the Grand Millennium Sukhumvit Bangkok. It is a centrally located luxury hotel in Bangkok, situated in the central business district, within easy access of major attractions and transport hubs.

LEE WESTWOOD, Dubai World Championship winner & race to Dubai Champion. Now we have the luck to share the exercise with him.

No panic

On his last outing in Hong Kong Westwood struggled on the greens, but he was able to stay calm about his problems.

First of all he accepted that the greens were tricky and that he lacked crucial local knowledge. So he felt there was no need to panic. And he was proved right.

Secret strategy

All week the mischievous Westwood talked of a “secret strategy” and he took particular pleasure in baiting the Mail on Sunday’s Peter Higgs with his reluctance to reveal it.

“There’s nothing too secretive or illegal,” he laughed, “but why talk about it? It’s nobody’s business but mine and Billy’s until the end of the week.”

“Because we’d all be interested to know what it is,” countered Higgs.

“Well I’ll tell you tomorrow night.”

“Not now?” Higgs persisted.

“Definitely not.”

“What difference does it make?” asked Higgs.

“Because people will copy and crib off it,” Westwood said, figuratively putting his arm around his card to stop anyone looking. “It’s like copying an exam. Did you do that Peter?”

Entertaining stuff and even better was to come on Sunday when Westwood finally revealed his confidential plan.

“The secret is,” he grinned, “that there is no secret. I was making everyone think I had a secret when I didn’t really.”

Higgs of the Mail had gone home at this point (his deadline passed) so his response went unreported.

The only downside for Westwood is that the “secret plan” ploy won’t work again.

Stats magic

Westwood’s long game has been good for years but sometimes the rest of his game is not so reliable. But that wasn’t the case last week.

In addition to ranking first for Greens in Regulation he out-performed the field for Scrambling, Sand Saves, Birdies and Par Breaking. He was also fifth for Putting Average, seventh for Driving Accuracy and eighth for Driving Distance.

Experience

If it was no surprise that Westwood was in complete control of his swing last week, it was a little more unforeseen that his mental game would be so dominant.

This is a man who was once a winning machine but who had lost the knack; a man who was then reborn with a double-win in 2007 only to suffer a series of what-could-have-beens in the following two years.

With all that doubt hanging around him, he was not the person you’d expect to be using non-existent secret strategies, rebuking Rory McIlroy for his own mental game inexperience, and remaining as composed and ruthless as he clearly was all week.

It begged the question – where had this mental game monster been lurking? The answer was ‘within’ and Westwood’s caddie Billy Foster was responsible for drawing it out.

“The big turnaround in confidence was catching Billy (his caddie Billy Foster) at the beach party on Tuesday,” said Europe’s number one.

“He’d probably just had enough Heineken to tell me what he really thought. He said I’d been paying too much attention to the other people around me.

“He said ‘You’ve been out here 16 years, that’s longer than all three of them put together (McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Ross Fisher were the only players left in the race to be number one) and you’ve won 30 times, which is more than them put together’.

“It’s a terrible word to use because I hate it, but he said ‘You’ve got to bully them’. That’s why I’ve been confident all week.”

Westwood has used mind coach Dr Karl Morris in the past and you can see his methods at work here – Westwood assumed the role of bully for the week.

You can also see how he has to consciously ‘take on’ the role (his more natural persona thinks it is a “terrible word” he “hates” to use), but if he can reassume the role in the majors, it may be the difference between finishing second and winning.

A year of two halves

For the first half of the season Westwood was actually a little bit off his game. After a very consistent, but ultimately frustrating and winless, 2008 he finished third in the South African Open but then failed to make the top five for the next six months.

The turning point came in France in early July when he finished second to Martin Kaymer in the Open de France.

Including that performance his next 12 events reaped two wins, another three top three finishes and no less than ten top nine finishes.

In the 48 rounds of those tournaments he only failed to shoot 72 or better on five occasions. Compare that to May alone – in just ten rounds in that month he topped 72 six times; it wasn’t just that Westwood’s good golf became so much better, in the last six months of the year his bad golf was better too.

Covert Golf Hypnosis and Secret Plans at the Dubai World Championships

]]>

Firstly there was Lee Westwood’s much talked about “Secret Plan.” When the dust settled he admitted, “Okay, if you really want to know, the secret was making everyone else think I had a secret, when I didn’t really have one.” He had the rest of the field nervously waiting to find out what the plan was and not concentrating on their own plans. In my forthcoming book, The Secrets of Hypnotic Golf, I talk about protecting yourself against Covert Hypnosis or “Black Ops Golf”, as other people refer to it. Although I’m not comfortable with Covert Hypnosis, I have to admit that Lee’s approach isn’t that much different from Jack Nicklaus taking advantage from “The golf psychology of letting everyone else complain while you win”, as I wrote about in September.

Then there was the Lee’s personal success story of how he regained his form when he explained that. “The reason for the big turnaround in my confidence and stuff like that was catching my caddie, Billy Foster, at the beach party on Tuesday evening when he probably had enough Heineken to tell me what he really thought.” Lee went on saying, “He said I’d not been myself recently. I’d paid too much attention to other people around me. He told me I’d been out here 16 years, which is longer than all three of them (McIlroy, Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer) put together and have won 30 tournaments, which is more than they’ve all won. You’ve got to bully them on the golf course. You’ve got to be yourself again and get back to the instinct you had in the late 90s and 2000′.”

I suspect that Billy’s comments had a much more positive golf psychology impact on Lee than any negative one his “Secret” had on his opponents. Having said that, his anticipation of the disadvantage his “Secret” would have on them would clearly help improve his own state of confidence. He certainly seemed to think it had a detrimental effect on Rory McIlroy.

That leads me nicely on to Rory’s apparent golf psychology disaster after playing with Lee in the first round at Dubai. Whatever impact that had on his game, it was his putting that let him down, if you consider coming second at Dubai and Second in the Order of Merit a let-down. In contrast, it was Lee’s phenomenal putting that made the difference between him and Rory and that was what really sealed his victory.

So if you want to play your best golf, you need to increase your psychological strength and confidence with golf hypnosis and protect yourself from covert hypnosis and other people’s “Secret Plans.”

Where to Find Thai Freelancers in Bangkok

Edit Article |

Posted: Dec 26, 2009 | Views: 1,107 |

]]>

Though Bangkok has 3 raunchy red light districts there are only several best places where you can find groups of Thai Freelancers waiting around for customers like you. But knowing where to find them is not enough.

To start off, you should know where to stay to avoid paying extra hotel fees and and to save money on short time hotels. Many seasoned visitors to Bangkok’s red light district prefer Thai freelancers for several reasons, rather then heading over to a go go bar.

First you never have to pay a bar fine to a go go bar which cost a minimum of 500 baht whenever you take a bar girl out. Second you never have to waste money on several expensive beers and a lady drink for the bar girl which will cost you all together another 500 baht. Go go bars will not allow you to sit in their bar and watch the ladies if you don’t buy drinks. So already you’ve spent 1000 baht and that’s not including the extra activity price of being with the bar girl for short time (1 hour 1500 baht – 2000 baht) or long time (overnight 2500 baht – 4000 baht+).

Dealing with Thai freelancers on the other hand is much more loose and relax, with no pressure. You simply go to a spot where they hang out. You can even buy a litre of Heineken for 45 baht at a 7 Eleven and drink on the streets while watching the ladies. And when you find one you like you can chat with her and not have to buy her a drink.

Here are several places where you can find Thai freelancers:

Nana Hotel Parking Lot
Rajah Hotel Coffee Shop behind Nana Hotel (Russian & Ukrainian women)
Between Sukhumvit Soi 5 and Soi 7 (a mix of Thai, Africans, and ladyboys)
Nana Entertainment Plaza (at the entrance you’ll find a handful of ladyboys)
Thermae Bar (Sukhumvit Soi 15, basement of Ruamchitt Hotel)

Here’s a really good tip: If you find a girl you like but don’t want to pay 1500 baht for short time you can always offer her 1000 baht if she can’t find a customer. Believe me, if it’s a really slow night and she needs to pay the rent she’ll take you up on the offer. A little patience definitely goes a long way.

After you’ve found someone and have agreed on a price you have a choice of going to a short time hotel or back to your own hotel. If you decide to go to a short time hotel you’ll have to pay 300 baht for an hour. Don’t worry about knowing where a short time hotel is, you’re companion will know of the closest one.

Your next and best option is to take her back to your hotel. But you must make sure that you’re staying at a guest friendly hotel. If you don’t you’ll end up paying as high as 1000 baht per companion per night. There are many popular guest friendly hotels near where Thai freelancers hang out. And the best places to find them is near the red light district of Nana. And as you can see from the list above of freelancer hangouts, all of them are in Nana red light district.

It really makes sense for you to stay in a guest friendly hotel in Nana’s red light district. After all you’ve already paid for the rooms and you’re bed is perfectly fine. Also because if you’re paying short time you only have 1 hour. We all know how fast 1 hour can really go by. And you don’t want to spend most of that time in a taxi getting back to your hotel on the other side of town. Other times girls will charge you more because they will feel they shouldn’t have to pay for their taxi ride when you’re finished.
