Sharm El Sheikh is increasingly becoming more and more popular each year with thousands of visitors flocking to the resort all year round. Many holiday makers who have visited the resort before and stayed in one of the hotel chains are seeking alternatives and thatâs self catering in one of the many apartments and studios.

Sharm El Sheikh now has many privately owned apartments, studios and condos and a lot of these are rented out for self catering holidays.

Some of the advantages to renting a self catering apartment in sharm el sheikh is that your not tied to your hotel by having to be back for lunch and dinner, giving you more quality time to explore the resort. You can also bring in your own alcohol which is not allowed in most hotels and in some cases alcohol being confiscated. Other advantages are a more quieter atmosphere, no loud music blurring out late at night or being pulled into the hotel entertainments, after all it is your holiday and you can find plenty of your own entertainments in one of the busy resorts. And more importantly you have the choice to cook your own food.

Itâs a good idea to buy your food and supplies at the beginning of your holiday, and to buy enough for the whole duration of your stay, most self catering apartments do have Fridge Freezers to keep meats and vegetables fresh, but do check when booking your holiday apartment.

Sharm El Sheikh has improved drastically in recent years and now provides for the self catering holiday, supermarkets selling meats, vegetables and dairy products, some of the best are the Metro supermarkets found in Nabq Bay and just past Naama Bay on the way to Old Market and Hadaba. The Metro supermarkets are the nearest you will get to our supermarkets back home selling fresh meat, vegetables and dairy products in fact everything you will need for your self catering holiday in sharm el sheikh, they also have a home delivery service making it even easier for you.

Other large supermarkets in sharm are 24 7 situated are in Naama Bay and Old market along with smaller shops selling food and kitchenware. for details of where the nearest supermarket is to you there is a couple of free informational booklets issued monthly, these directories tell you where to eat, shop, and places to go and lists all supermarkets in Sharm El Sheikh, the booklets are called The Mix and The Book these can be found in coffee shops, supermarkets, Restaurants and Bars.

Alcohol and cigarettes are best bought at Old Market situated in Sharm El Maya about 6 Km south of Naama Bay. Old Market has the charm of ancient Egypt with its Bazaars, souvenir shops, perfume shops and colourful displays of spices, Old market has everything you will need for your self catering Holiday, and at very good prices. Look out for the Heineken shop in the centre of Old market this is the cheapest I have found for Beer and spirits.

try the local beers like Sakara or there brand of stella imported Beers are more expensive.

Cigarettes can be bought in the small food shops dotted in and around Old Market these are the cheapest with set prices.

Watch out for street sellers who sell cigarettes these may be fake and you will have to haggle the price. Fruit, vegetables and meat can be bought at Old Market at cheap prices.

As Old Market is a popular tourist spot there are many souvenir shops, as with Cairo and Luxor you will have to Haggle in the shops for the best price, once you get the hang of it, it is quite good fun. One of my Tips for Haggling is to ask the price, half it and work around that figure, try not to pay over two thirds of the original figure. Remember there will probably be another shop a few meters away selling the same thing, so if you fail to get a good price from the first you may get a better deal from the second, third and so on.

The whole of sharm El Sheikh stretches from Nabq Bay right to the Bay of Sharm El Maya over 30 miles in total. so if you intend to see a bit of the place you will need to get around by some mode of transport Taxi, Micro Bus, or Hire Car. Taxis are a reasonably cheap way of getting round, depending of how much you use them, they have recently had a overhaul from cranky old Peugeots to shiny new ones, this was to give Sharm El Sheikh the new up market look. All official taxis are blue and white with there own unique fleet number, make a note of its number if you want to use the driver again, the driver will probably hassle you for business.

Blue and white taxis do have fixed rates for the destination but before you get in, state destination and cost of fare as some drivers still ask for more money or a tip at the end of the journey.

Never get in blue and white pickups they are not taxis, some will ask you if you want a lift and then demand paying for there service. Keep clear of taxi touts in Naama Bay they are on a commission. There are hundreds of taxis at Naama Bay so its easy to get your own, You may even be able to negotiate a lower price than the set fee.

Cheaper ways of transport to get you out and about from your self catering apartment are the public microbuses, these are also blue and white and they also have fixed prices for there destination, but will try to charge tourists a lot more for the fare, The fare Tariffs can be found at bus stops in Naama Bay on large Boards or free information Booklets like the Mix or the Book. Micro Buses do get very crowded at peak times especially in the morning taking Egyptian workers to work, but if you donât mind this then itâs a very cheap way of getting around.

If you have an international driving licence and want to drive in Sharm El Sheikh then rent a car, this might be the best option in the long term for getting you around, Fuel is very cheap around 2 LE a litre in Egypt. Having the freedom of you own car gives you more options to fully explore Sharm El Sheikhâs many attractions. International licence will have to be applied back in your own country. UK application forms can be downloaded from the RAC website.

If you fancy a pre-match pint, the pubs near the ground can be quite partisan, so you may consider drinking a little further afield. About a 15 minute walk away from the ground near Parsons Green Tube Station is the White Horse. A large comfortable pub which sells good food and a range of real ales including Harveys Ales from Sussex. To find this pub with the new West Stand behind you turn right (up past where the away coaches are parked) up Fulham Road and into Fulham Broadway, passing the tube station on your right. Continue to follow Fulham Road around to the left and then take a left hand turn into Parsons Green Road. Go under the bridge passing Parsons Tube Station on your right and you will reach the White Horse pub on your left.
Away fans are located on one side of the Shed End lower tier (towards the East Stand side), where the normal allocation for league games is 3,000 tickets. For cup games the whole of the Shed End can be allocated. The view from this area of the ground is pretty good and the refreshment areas and concourses were modern and new looking. There are televisions on the concourses, showing amongst other things at half time, highlights from the first half. A range of pies and pasties are on offer, including the Chicken Balti Pie (£3) and roll over hot dogs (£3.50). Alcohol is also available with Heineken & Guinness on offer at £3.50 a pint. There is also a ‘meal deal’ available for a pie and a pint (£6).

On the whole Stamford Bridge is a pleasurable day out. There is a good atmosphere within the ground and even though there is not a lot of space between the home and away fan sections, it is not intimidating. In The Shed End take care when you go up and down the steps of the stand as they are quite small and there are extra steps between each row.

Stamford Bridge is a great ground to visit – Enjoy your visit to Chelsea.

If you fancy a pre-match pint, the pubs near the ground can be quite partisan, so you may consider drinking a little further afield. About a 15 minute walk away from the ground near Parsons Green Tube Station is the White Horse. A large comfortable pub which sells good food and a range of real ales including Harveys Ales from Sussex. To find this pub with the new West Stand behind you turn right (up past where the away coaches are parked) up Fulham Road and into Fulham Broadway, passing the tube station on your right. Continue to follow Fulham Road around to the left and then take a left hand turn into Parsons Green Road. Go under the bridge passing Parsons Tube Station on your right and you will reach the White Horse pub on your left.
Away fans are located on one side of the Shed End lower tier (towards the East Stand side), where the normal allocation for league games is 3,000 tickets. For cup games the whole of the Shed End can be allocated. The view from this area of the ground is pretty good and the refreshment areas and concourses were modern and new looking. There are televisions on the concourses, showing amongst other things at half time, highlights from the first half. A range of pies and pasties are on offer, including the Chicken Balti Pie (£3) and roll over hot dogs (£3.50). Alcohol is also available with Heineken & Guinness on offer at £3.50 a pint. There is also a ‘meal deal’ available for a pie and a pint (£6).

On the whole Stamford Bridge is a pleasurable day out. There is a good atmosphere within the ground and even though there is not a lot of space between the home and away fan sections, it is not intimidating. In The Shed End take care when you go up and down the steps of the stand as they are quite small and there are extra steps between each row.

Stamford Bridge is a great ground to visit – Enjoy your visit to Chelsea.

If you fancy a pre-match pint, the pubs near the ground can be quite partisan, so you may consider drinking a little further afield. About a 15 minute walk away from the ground near Parsons Green Tube Station is the White Horse. A large comfortable pub which sells good food and a range of real ales including Harveys Ales from Sussex. To find this pub with the new West Stand behind you turn right (up past where the away coaches are parked) up Fulham Road and into Fulham Broadway, passing the tube station on your right. Continue to follow Fulham Road around to the left and then take a left hand turn into Parsons Green Road. Go under the bridge passing Parsons Tube Station on your right and you will reach the White Horse pub on your left.
Away fans are located on one side of the Shed End lower tier (towards the East Stand side), where the normal allocation for league games is 3,000 tickets. For cup games the whole of the Shed End can be allocated. The view from this area of the ground is pretty good and the refreshment areas and concourses were modern and new looking. There are televisions on the concourses, showing amongst other things at half time, highlights from the first half. A range of pies and pasties are on offer, including the Chicken Balti Pie (£3) and roll over hot dogs (£3.50). Alcohol is also available with Heineken & Guinness on offer at £3.50 a pint. There is also a ‘meal deal’ available for a pie and a pint (£6).

On the whole Stamford Bridge is a pleasurable day out. There is a good atmosphere within the ground and even though there is not a lot of space between the home and away fan sections, it is not intimidating. In The Shed End take care when you go up and down the steps of the stand as they are quite small and there are extra steps between each row.

Stamford Bridge is a great ground to visit – Enjoy your visit to Chelsea.

There are many different styles of beer, but in judging beers there are 9 common classes that will be reviewed. This article summarizes one of these distinct classes of beer.

Class 1: Light Lagers

Light lagers basically consist of American Light (Budweiser, Coors, Michelob) and Pre-prohibition, German and Bohemian pilsners (Bitburger, Pilsner Urquell), Dortmunder Export (Stoudt’s Gold) and Munich Helles (Spaten Premium).

1. Light Lager

Styles

1. 1A. Lite American Lager

2. 1B. Standard American Lager

3. 1C. Premium American Lager

4. 1D. Munich Helles

5. 1E. Dortmunder Export

1A. Lite American Lager

Overall Impression: Very light, refreshing.

Comments: A lower calorie beer than standard international lagers. Not the strongest flavors. these beers were designed to appeal to massive populations.

Commercial Examples: Miller Lite, Bud Light, Coors Light, Amstel Light

1B. Standard American Lager

Comments: Flavors still not too strong. The standard lager is the most popular and the most mass-marketed.

Commercial Examples: Miller High Life, Budweiser, Kirin Lager, Molson Golden, Corona Extra, Foster’s Lager

1C. Premium American Lager

Overall Impression: More filling than lite versions. Still a very light beer. Refreshing.

Comments: More flavor than stadard/lite lagers, but no strong flavors present in the beer. Again, another mass market beer, however, much heavier than the others mentioned. The green bottled imports are included here like Heineken, for example.

Commercial Examples: Miller Genuine Draft, Michelob, Coors Extra Gold, Heineken, Beck’s, Stella Artois, Singha

1D. Munich Helles

Overall Impression: Malty but fully attenuated.

History: Created in Munich in 1895 at the Spaten brewery by Gabriel Sedlmayr. This beer was designed to compete directly with the ever-popular Pilsner style beers.

Comments: this beer focuses on malt flavor with some hop bitterness, which is much unlike the Pilsner style.

Commercial Examples: Hacker-Pschorr M̹nchner Helles, Paulaner Premium Lager, Spaten Premium Lager, Andechser Hell, Augustiner Lagerbier Hell, Weihenstephaner Original, Stoudt’s Gold Lager

1E. Dortmunder Export

Very well balanced, light copper colored beer. hop profile of a Munich Helles, hopped like a pilsner, but tends to be a bit stronger than those.

History: Born in the Dortmund industrial region, Dortmunder has been losing its popularity drastically in the region.

Commercial Examples: DAB Export, Dortmunder Union Export, Dortmunder Kronen, Ayinger Jahrhundert, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, Saratoga Lager, Dominion Lager, Gordon Biersch Golden Export

There are many different styles of beer, but in judging beers there are 9 common classes that will be reviewed. This article summarizes one of these distinct classes of beer.

Class 1: Light Lagers

Light lagers basically consist of American Light (Budweiser, Coors, Michelob) and Pre-prohibition, German and Bohemian pilsners (Bitburger, Pilsner Urquell), Dortmunder Export (Stoudt’s Gold) and Munich Helles (Spaten Premium).

1. Light Lager

1. 1A. Lite American Lager

2. 1B. Standard American Lager

3. 1C. Premium American Lager

4. 1D. Munich Helles

5. 1E. Dortmunder Export

1A. Lite American Lager

Overall Impression: Very light, refreshing.

Comments: A lower calorie beer than standard international lagers. Not the strongest flavors. these beers were designed to appeal to massive populations.

Commercial Examples: Miller Lite, Bud Light, Coors Light, Amstel Light

1B. Standard American Lager

Comments: Flavors still not too strong. The standard lager is the most popular and the most mass-marketed.

Commercial Examples: Miller High Life, Budweiser, Kirin Lager, Molson Golden, Corona Extra, Foster’s Lager

1C. Premium American Lager

Overall Impression: More filling than lite versions. Still a very light beer. Refreshing.

Comments: More flavor than stadard/lite lagers, but no strong flavors present in the beer. Again, another mass market beer, however, much heavier than the others mentioned. The green bottled imports are included here like Heineken, for example.

Commercial Examples: Miller Genuine Draft, Michelob, Coors Extra Gold, Heineken, Beck’s, Stella Artois, Singha

1D. Munich Helles

Overall Impression: Malty but fully attenuated.

History: Created in Munich in 1895 at the Spaten brewery by Gabriel Sedlmayr. This beer was designed to compete directly with the ever-popular Pilsner style beers.

Comments: this beer focuses on malt flavor with some hop bitterness, which is much unlike the Pilsner style.

Commercial Examples: Hacker-Pschorr M̹nchner Helles, Paulaner Premium Lager, Spaten Premium Lager, Andechser Hell, Augustiner Lagerbier Hell, Weihenstephaner Original, Stoudt’s Gold Lager

1E. Dortmunder Export

Very well balanced, light copper colored beer. hop profile of a Munich Helles, hopped like a pilsner, but tends to be a bit stronger than those.

History: Born in the Dortmund industrial region, Dortmunder has been losing its popularity drastically in the region.

Commercial Examples: DAB Export, Dortmunder Union Export, Dortmunder Kronen, Ayinger Jahrhundert, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, Saratoga Lager, Dominion Lager, Gordon Biersch Golden Export

With the economy going down the drain, any man… a cheap man that is, can still enjoy a holiday in any of Bangkok’s red light districts. First off you have to know when to go, where to stay, drink and most importantly find company.

The best time to go and save money for hotels in Bangkok is from late March to late October, which is the low season. Even though it will be hot and rainy during those months you’re going to be indoors most of the time. Hotels in Bangkok during low season slash their rates by up to 40% to 50%. Some hotels are even desperate enough to discount their rooms up to 60% for walk in guest.

When you choose a hotel however make sure you book one that won’t charge you a fee for taking a companion back to your room for an overnight stay. This fee is called a joiner fee and a hotel that doesn’t charge this fee is deemed guest friendly. Hotels that charge joiner fees usually ask for B1,000 so it’s in your best interest to stay at a guest friendly hotel.

Now there are short time hotels with rooms to rent for B300 an hour. But if you’re staying in a perfectly fine guest friendly hotel near the sex districts there’s no reason why you should be paying an extra B300. We can use that B300 for better things right?

There are plenty of budget guest friendly hotels in Bangkok, particularly close to any of the 3 sex districts in Bangkok.

In Patpong sex district you can choose to stay at the Wall Street Inn Hotel. Their room rates start from B1,000 and usually includes a breakfast. It is opposite a popular gay nightlife street and just a 5 minute walk to the neon lights and boom of club beats of Patpong’s go go bars. You can even find a lively night market there as well.

The next 2 sex districts, Nana and Soi Cowboy are very close to each other and you can use the Sky Train nearby to get to Patpong easily. A fare only cost B25.

Nana and Soi Cowboy has the most guest friendly hotels and many of them are expensive. There are a few budget ones such as the Woraburi Sukhumvit Hotel and Resort and Swiss Park Hotel. Both charge about B900 to B1200 and includes breakfast. Even better both are very near Nana hotels parking lot, a popular spot where Thai freelance girls and sometimes lady boys stand around. The Nana Hotel cost about B1,400 a night and still worth the price.

I know most guys want to pay a visit to go go bars but for a cheap man you’ll be paying a lot. Beers and liquor are quite expensive in go go bars these days. A locally brewed Heineken will cost you B120. My suggestion is to go to 7 Eleven store where you can find a liter of cold Heineken for B45, sit outside and oogle at the many beautiful ladies around Nana and Sukhumvit. It’s free to oogle after all.

Also remember in a go go bar you have to pay a B500 bar fine to take a lady out. For lady boys a bar fine is B600. But there’s still a way for you to meet go go bar girls and not pay a bar fine.

Nana Entertainment Plaza is a go go bar haven, located right across from the Nana Hotel. Every night around 1am to 2am the girls working inside will stream out into the Nana Hotel’s parking lot, which is just right across the street. They do so to make extra money. Since they’re outside of the bar you won’t have to pay a bar fine!

Now freelance ladies and lady boys usually ask for B1,500 for short time (1 hour) and B3,000 to B4,000 for long time (overnight). Obviously you don’t want to pay that much. So for instance if you find a lady you like and she’s standing firm on B1,500 for short time, but you only want to pay B1,000. I suggest you tell her if she can’t find a customer she can always come back to your offer of B,1000. It may not work all the time but your patience will reward you with a B500 savings.
